Q & A
Q.How do I make the Lilypie Baby Days image display in an email? It just looks like text when I paste it in.
AIn some email software, like Outlook Express, Outlook and Mozilla based programs like Mozilla, Thunderbird and Netscape you can add text and graphics to the bottom of each email by creating an HTML file and then installing it as your signature.

For AOL, MSN Hotmail and Yahoo you paste your code into the Signature box in Mail options.

You can also use the tickers with Incredimail and MacMail.

Image signatures such as those on Lilypie are not an option for all email applications. If you access your email through your ISP's website (often called webmail) you most probably won't be able to have an HTML signature. There is a list here of webmails that I have been told don't allow HTML signatures, but to be sure; check with your webmail support.

Also, many people prefer plain text email (no text formatting, no images) because it is more secure so some people you email will not be able to see the ticker in your signature.

Q.How do I add Lilypie Baby Days to my signature in Outlook Express
AYou will need to create an HTML file, and then install it as your signature file.

Creating an HTML signature file;
Open Notepad and paste in the following Lilypie Baby Days HTML;

And then paste the Lilypie Baby Days HTML from one of the Create Baby Days or
Baby & Kids Birthday pages, between <body> and </body> so it looks like this;

text in notepad
Then save that file as "baby_ticker.html" and you have a signature file.

NB Make sure you put in the quotes around "baby_ticker.html" OR select All files from the Save as type drop-down underneath where you type in the file name. Otherwise notepad will save it as a text file.

Notepad comes standard with all installations of Windows, you will find it in your Start menu under Accessories or just click on Run in your Start menu and type in notepad. Then click on OK and it will start up.

Go to How to install a Lilypie Baby Days signature in Outlook.

  3. Click on OK.
Q.The Lilypie Baby Days image isn't showing up in my Outlook Express mail, all I get is the text in a link. How do I get it to show up?
AIf you have followed the instructions here for adding the Lilypie Baby Days to your Outlook Email and it is still only showing up as a text or a hypertext link, you may need to change the format that you are sending and receiving emails.

To change the format for incoming messages:
  • Open Outlook Express

  • About the 4th option down is Read all messages in plain text this needs to be unchecked for the Lilypie signature to display in your incoming emails.

  • Click on Options and then select the Send tab.
  • Under Mail Sending Format select HTML for the Lilypie signature to display in the emails you send.
 Q.How do I create a signature in Outlook 2007?
ACreating an HTML signature in Outlook 2007 is no longer easy. You will need to be experienced at editing configuration settings. I can't make these directions any simpler, if you are unsure try asking a friend with more experience to help.

There is no option in Outlook 2007 to install a signature file, and you can't directly paste HTML into the Edit Signature dialogue as it will display as text not an image. What you can do is, place an HTML file directly into the Signature folder in your hidden Microsoft Application data.

When you create a signature in Outlook 2007 it creates 3 files (.htm, .txt and .rtf). You can replace the .htm file with your own html file.

To create a signature in Outlook 2007:

  1. Go to Tools / Options / Mail Format.
  2. Click on Signatures.
  3. Click on New.
  4. Give your signature a name eg. lilypie.
  5. Click on OK
  6. You don't need to put anything into the signature, we are just doing it so that Outlook creates the files it needs. Click on OK and you are done.
  7. Close Outlook
Locate your signature folder:
In a "Run" prompt (you will find "Run" in your start menu or by typing Windows Key+R),
  • for XP type %userprofile%\Application Data\Local\Microsoft\Signatures
  • for Vista type %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Signatures

Your signature folder will now open. It will be something similar to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures\
or
c:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Signatures

You should see 3 files created for your signature. (lilypie.htm, lilypie.txt and lilypie.rtf) If you don't see the file extensions go to Tools / Folder Options / View and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.

Replace the HTML file created by Outlook:
Create an HTML file as per these instructions and use it replace the .htm file in your signature folder. Make sure you call it the same name as Outlook did eg. lilypie.htm

To start using your new signature

  1. Restart Outlook.
  2. Click on New
  3. Click on Signature and select your signature from the list. Your signature will now be added to your mail.

NB To have your Lilypie signature display as an image, you need your email to be in HTML format. To check for this, click on Options in the Mail dialogue. Make sure HTML is highlighted above Format.

Q.How do I create a signature in Outlook?
ACreate an HTML signature file as per these instructions.
Then:
  1. Choose Tools > Options and open the Mail Format tab in the Options dialog box
  2. Under Message Format / Compose in this message format / Select HTML
  3. Click on the Signature button to create a new signature.
  4. Enter a name for the new Signature (optional).
  5. Select Use this file as a template.
  6. Click on Browse button to navigate to where you saved the file.
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Finish
  9. In the Mail Format window select the new signature in the
Signature for new messages drop down.
  10. Generaly for Signature for replies and forwards I would make it none, or have a seperate plain text signature.
When you reply to or forward mail messages they will be in the format of the original email. If you are replying to non-HTML mail the Lilypie signature won't display properly unless you set the format for your reply every time.
  11. OK out of the dialogue.
  12. Send yourself a test email to see if it worked.
Q.How do I use the Lilypie Baby Days with the Mac?
AIt depends on the email program you are using.

For Macmail: Just create the HTML signature as per Creating an HTML signature file and save it to your desktop. Then when you have an email that you want to attach the Lilypie Baby Days signature:
  1. Open the Lilypie Baby Days file in your browser
  2. Click on the image and drag it to the email.
For Thunderbird it is the same on Mac as it is for the PC. There are instructions here for any Mozilla based email program. If you haven't come across Thunderbird before it is an excellent free email program, that is very easy to use and has great built in Junk mail filters. You can read more about it here.

I haven't had any success installing it on Entourage or Outlook Express for Mac.
Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days signature to my Yahoo email?
AThe free version of Yahoo mail has an option which allows you to copy and paste in HTML for use as a signature. This varies according to the browser you are using. The following is how I added it to my free Yahoo account using Internet Explorer 5.5 or MSN Explorer on a Windows based computer. (It won't work for any other browser or operating system). Instructions for the new Yahoo Mail beta are here.
  1. Go to Yahoo mail, select Mail Options
  2. Under Personalization, click Signature
  3. Check View HTML source. If you don't see this option, click on the Color and Graphics link above the message box.
  4. Paste in your customised HTML from the Create Baby Days page.

    signature is

  5. Check Add signature to all outgoing messages if you want the Baby due-date signature added to all your Yahoo emails.
  6. Uncheck View HTML source to see your Lilypie Baby Days signature.
  7. Click on Save and you have created your signature.
Please note, these instructions are specific to using Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer as your browser when you add your signature. Adding the signature in any of the Mozilla based browsers such as Netscape, Mozilla or Firefox did not work for me. This is not the fault of the browsers, or of Lilypie it is purely the way the Yahoo site is written.

If your Lilypie Baby Days isn't displaying correctly when you receive a Yahoo email, it may be your Yahoo mail settings. Check here for tips on updating your mail settings.

Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days signature to my Yahoo email? I'm using the new Yahoo mail beta.
AThese instructions are for using Internet Explorer on a Windows box. I haven't had any success on any other platform.
  1. Under the Options dropdown (link at top right), choose Mail Options
  2. Click on the Compose link in the left hand menu
  3. Click on Plain text link at the top right above the message box.
  4. Paste in your HTML code snippet from Lilypie.
  5. Click on the Rich Text link at the top right above the message box, to display your ticker.
  6. Click on the Save Changes button. It is top mid-left, above the word Compose.
NB If you click on Plain text again, it will delete your code snippet, so if you are going to be adding more tickers you need to add them all at once. The easiest way to do this is to put your tickers together in Notepad.

Notepad comes standard with all installations of Windows, you will find it in your Start menu under Accessories or just click on Run in your Start menu and type in notepad. Then click on OK and it will start up.

For instance, the HTML for 2 tickers with a line break <br /> tag between them would look like this:

Once you have put them together in Notepad, you can select all of the code and copy-and-paste it into Yahoo's signature area.

Q.The Lilypie Baby Days image isn't showing up in my Yahoo mail, all I get is the text in a link. How do I get it to show up?
AThe most important thing with your Yahoo signature is that you click on View HTML source BEFORE you pasted in your code snippet. It is step 3 of the instructions here. After you have pasted it in un-select "View HTML source" to see a preview of your signature.

Similarly, with the instructions for the new Yahoo mail beta you have to click on Plain text before you paste in your HTML code snippet, then click on Rich text to display your signature.

The next thing to try is checking your mail settings. For instance; you may have your email set to block images or you may be composing emails as plain text.

Blocking Images:

  • If you are blocking images you will see this message at the bottom of your email:

The HTML graphics in this message have been displayed. <Edit Preferences - What's This?>

If you click on Edit preferences in the above message, it will take you to the Spam Protection dialogue. At the bottom you will see Image Blocking. I have it set to "Block images in messages that Spam Guard thinks are Spam".

Or you can go to Mail / Options / Spam protection to get to the same dialogue.

Composing E-mails:
  • If you want your Lilypie Baby Days to display as an image, you need to make sure you are composing your emails in HTML.

To check the send format go to Mail / Options / General Preferences. You will see a heading Composing E-mails make sure the Mode is set to: Compose messages as color and graphics.

Q.How do I delete my signature from my Yahoo account?
 AIn Yahoo:
  1. Select Mail Options
  2. Under Personalization, click on Signature
  3. Select the ticker and click on your delete button. Press Save and your signature is gone.
Q.Why doesn't the Lilypie signature work with my Webmail eg. Comcast webmail, Wmconnect mail, MSN mail and Verizon mail?
AUsing a Lilypie signature with Webmail:

Many web-based email programs will display HTML mail so you can see a Lilypie Baby Days that has been sent to you, but they do not allow you to create an HTML signature like the Lilypie Baby Days ticker. Check with your Internet Provider's support whether they allow HTML signatures for your Webmail.

Alternatively, if you are running Windows, you can set up an email program such as Outlook Express to send and receive your email, no matter what ISP you are using. Outlook Express comes standard with all installations of Windows and your ISP will generaly have instructions in their Help section as to how to set up Outlook Express with your account. You can then use the step-by-step instructions here to add a Lilypie signature to your email account.

For Mac users, there is an excellent free email program called Thunderbird that you can use for your email. There are step-by-step instructions here to add your Lilypie signature to Thunderbird.

So, far we have been unable to use the Pregnancy ticker with the majority of Webmails eg. Comcast webmail, Wmconnect mail, MSN mail, iwon mail, Bellsouth webmail and Verizon mail.

Let me know if you have any success using the ticker with these programs or find other email programs that it doesn't work with.

For plain text emails tools that don't allow graphic signatures I just have a link to the image. e.g.;

Q.What email programs do the Lilypie tickers not work with?
AAs well as the Webmail programs listed no one has reported any success using the tickers with Mac Eudora.

Let me know if you have any success using the ticker with these programs or find other email programs that it doesn't work with.
Q.I use a browser to access my email online using my Internet providers Webmail. How can I add a Lilypie signature?
Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days signature to my AOL email?
AFor AOL you need to add some HTML tags before you paste in the HTML code snippet you created with your Lilypie Baby Days.

The easiest way to do this is to open Notepad (More info on Notepad) and paste in the following Lilypie Baby Days HTML;

And then paste the Lilypie Baby Days HTML from one of the Create Baby Days or
Baby & Kids Birthday pages, between and so it looks like this;

  1. Then select all of the text you have just created, right click and select Copy to copy the HTML to your clipboard.
  2. Go to AOL Mail and click Write Mail (or just click Write).
  3. At the bottom right of the letter template it says Signatures.
  4. Click Signatures and then highlight and click Set Up Signatures.
  5. A window will open, click Create.
  6. In the upper field of the new window, type LilypieSignature.
  7. In the lower field, paste in the signature HTML you created that is now in your clipboard. Then click OK.
  8. Click Default on/off to turn your signature on or off.
Notepad comes standard with all installations of Windows, you will find it in your Start menu under Accessories or just click on Run in your Start menu and type in notepad. Then click on OK and it will start up.
Q.When I sent an email with a Lilypie signature to an AOL account, the email was blocked. What happened?
AThere is a security setting for AOL that blocks image links such as Lilypie. To display the ticker the person you are sending the email to may need to change the security setting to allow for image links.
Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days signature to my MSN Hotmail email?
AThese instructions are using Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer as your browser. They don't work with the Live mail beta. Live mail does not yet allow images to be added using HTML.
  1. Go to Mail
  2. Click on Options link (top right)
  3. Click on Personal Signature
  4. Make sure the Show Rich Text Bar checkbox is unchecked.
  5. Paste in the HTML code snippet you created.
  6. Tick the Show Rich Text Bar checkbox.
  7. Your ticker should now be displayed. Click OK.

If your Lilypie Baby Days isn't displaying correctly when you receive a Hotmail email, it may be your Hotmail mail settings. Check here for tips on updating your mail settings.

Q.The Lilypie Baby Days image isn't showing up in my Hotmail mail, all I get is the text in a link. How do I get it to show up?
AYou may have your email set to block images. In Hotmail there is a Mail Display setting that can block images. In Mail / Options / Mail Display Settings you will see "Display Internet content" I have it set to "Display Internet content".
Q.How do I delete my signature from my Hotmail account?
 AIn Hotmail:
  1. Go to Mail
  2. Click on Options link (top right).
  3. Click on Personal Signature.
  4. Select the code snippet you pasted in, click on your delete button to remove the text and then click on OK and your signature is gone.
Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days signature to my Incredimail email?
AIt is possible to add the Baby days signature to an Incredimail signature but I have only been able to do it the following way as Incredimail doesn't allow you to use HTML in your signature.
  1. Use Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer to create your Lilypie ticker.
  2. Right click on the Preview image and choose Copy.
  3. Go to the New Signature window in Incredimail (New Mail / Tools / Signature / Manage Signatures / New Signature)
  4. Right click in the text box and choose Paste.
Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days signature to my Mozilla based email program. E.g. Thunderbird, Mozilla, Netscape?
AMozilla based email clients have a special attribute in the image tag to let the program know not to try and send the signature image with the email. To add a Lilypie baby days to your email, create the signature HTML as per the instructions here:
Create HTML signature file. The only difference is you need to add the attribute moz-do-not-send="true" to the img tag before you save your signature file.
E.g.

To install your signature file:
  1. In your folder menu right click on your account and choose Properties.
  2. Tick Attach this signature.
  3. Click on Choose and browse to where you have saved your signature file.
  4. Click on Open, then OK. Your signature has been installed.
Set your emails to compose in HTML If your signature is displaying as text rather than as an image; it most likely means that you don't have your email format set to HTML.
To check:
  1. In your email program, right click on your email account name under Folders.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click on Composition & Addressing
  4. Under Composition select Compose messages in HTML format.
  5. Click on OK and you are done.
Please note, this setting only affects the format of originating emails. If you reply to, or forward an email it will be in the format of the email you are replying to.
Q.How do I add my Lilypie Baby Days to my Gmail email?
AThere is a signature field under Settings / General in Gmail, but it doesn't accept HTML so if you paste your Lilypie HTML code snippet it will just display it as text. To add your Lilypie Baby Days to an email in Gmail you need to paste the image directly into the message body when you compose an email. I have only tested this on a PC so far, I will update this FAQ when I get a chance to test on a Mac.

To paste in the image:

  1. Have your ticker open in your browser.
  2. For Internet Explorer: Right click on the ticker image and choose Copy.

For Mozilla based browsers such as Firefox drag select the image, then right click and choose Copy from the context menu.

  3. Log in to Gmail, click on Compose Mail
  4. Right click in the message body and choose Paste
If you want to include the left side photo as well, go back to your ticker and copy-and-paste the photo as well.
Q.Can I have two (or more) tickers in my email signature?
AYes, follow the instructions for Creating an HTML signature file as appropriate for your email program. The only change is to place a line break tag <br /> between the HTML code snippets, so that they sit one on top of each other rather than side by side.

For instance, the HTML for an Expecting a Baby announcement above a Second Birthday announcement the HTML would look like this:
Q.Why isn't my Pregnancy ticker counting down, it has been showing the same text for the last few days.
AIf it is not updating in your email application it is because the program is cacheing the image rather than getting a new copy when you view it.

If you want to see the new image when you view your email you will need to work out how to refresh the image. This will depend on the email application.

If it is web based you could try holding down the Shift key while your press your browser Refresh button to force a full refresh of the page.

For Outlook or Outlook Express you may need to change your Internet Explorer settings. This is because Outlook shares the Internet Connections settings with IE.

  1. Go to Tools / Options / Connection in Outlook.
  2. Click on Change...
  3. Select the General tab, then Settings..
  4. Under Temporary Internet files you can see how often your browser is set to Check for new versions of stored pages. I have mine set to Automaticaly, if you have this and your ticker image isn't updated you could try Every visit to the page.
By the way, you can get to the same dialogue box through IE by going to Tools / Internet Options etc.

Of course, all this is only based on my use of Outlook and Outlook Express. If you need more advice you are probably better to check with Microsoft support.
